The neck angle was WAY off on this guitar. The neck was off by a couple degrees, and the neck was off center to the body by about 10mm at the tailblock. Also, I don't think the neck was ever aligned to the body right because the neck was not perpendicular to the center line of the neck. This was a lot of stuff to fix, but a few hours of carving with a chisel and sanding, I finally got the neck angle where I wanted it, and the neck centered better to the body.
The dovetail joint between body and neck was extremely poor, and I struggled with what to do with it. I could have spent more time shimming it and trying to get it to fit, but I think it was going to be a lost cause, so I converted the neck to a bolt on joint by insetting 2 inserts into theneck and bolting the body to the body. To ensure that the inserts created a strong joint, I flooded the end of the neck with thin CA glue to strengthen the end grain. This makes for a nice sturdy neck joint. One word of advice for putting in inserts - be careful putting them in otherwise you'll get
