Last night and today I got a lot of routing completed on my LP. I made up a couple of templates to help me route the control and switch cavities and the recesses for the covers. Over all it went well (despite burning out a couple of cheap Canadian Tire bits) until I got to the control cavity cover route. I don't really know what happened but the router jumped on me and the template moved a bit and put an imperfection in the back of the guitar. I was only taking an 1/8" cut so I don't think I was cutting too deep. Its a shame. I was pretty disappointed but I guess its all part of the learning curve of being a luthier! Hopefully I can fill it and make it look decent. The back covers fit nicely though!
I also bored out the jack hole as well, but didn't take a picture.
I marked out the top with graduations for the carved top. Then I freehand routed the top in approximately 1/16" increments. It looks a bit messy to start, but it will look better after using a chisel and sander to finish carving the top.
