I put a total of 5 coats of black lacquer on the entire guitar. Today I scraped the black paint off the bindings and headstock logo. Scraping bindings is a bit more difficult then I thought it would be. If your bindings are not even width along the edge of the guitar, this is where you realize how far out they are! Over all I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, although I did have to touch up a couple spots where I scraped a bit of the paint off the wood.
I used some white paint to outline my stamped serial number on the headstock, as well as to mark the side fretboard markers. I placed the pickguard blank over the guitar to see how it will look on the finished guitar. The original pickguards had more dark pigment and less of the amber colour, but I think this still looks pretty cool!
Next its time to start spraying clear coats. I think I'm going to add one or two drops of amber dye in the clear coat to add a slight aged look to the lacquer.
