After doing tons of reading on the internet and lurking on a few of the discussion forums, I finally decided to get a guitar kit and start building. The kit I will be building was purchased from Steven Kovacik in Scotia, New York. It was pretty exciting when the big box came and I unpacked it, digging through all those foam packing peanuts to reveal the parts that hopefully in a few months time will be transformed into a playable guitar. The specs of the guitar are:
Martin 000 cutaway, 14 fret neck joint
Solid Sitka spruce top with herringbone rosette
Hybrid X-A top bracing pattern (scalloped X bracing)
Solid mahogany sides and back
Tortoise shell pickguard and binding
Bolt on mahogany neck, 25.4" scale length
1-11/16" nut width with 2-1/8" string spacing at the bridge
Ebony fingerboard and bridge
Rosewood headstock overlay
I plan to fret it with Stewmac medium/higher fretwire, but the things I still have to decide on are what tuners to install, what kind of fingerboard markers to install, and if I should inlay the headstock with a logo.
Will post more pics as I make progress on the guitar!
